Why Grease Clogs Pipes
When hot grease is poured down the drain, it's liquid. But as it cools, it solidifies and sticks to the inside of pipes. Over time, this layer thickens and traps other debris, eventually causing a complete blockage.
Prevention Tips
- Never pour grease down the drain: Let it cool and dispose in trash
- Wipe greasy pans: Use paper towels before washing
- Use a grease trap: Install a grease trap in your kitchen sink
- Run hot water: After washing dishes, run hot water for 30 seconds
- Weekly maintenance: Pour boiling water with dish soap weekly
- Use strainers: Catch food particles before they enter the drain
